01What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use them sparingly; the only ones that serve advertising are Google’s and Meta’s, described in section 04.
02Essential cookies
Two cookies do this. faxly_session keeps you signed in: a signed, httpOnly cookie that expires after 30 days or when you sign out. faxly_draft ties the documents you upload to your browser until you check out, and expires after 7 days. Your in-progress fax itself — the recipient, cover page and contact details you have typed — is kept in your browser’s session storage, not a cookie, and disappears when the tab closes. Once you reach the payment step, that in-progress fax is also saved on our servers with your documents, so it can be finished from the link we email you, and is deleted with them. The service cannot function without these cookies, so they are always on.
03Preference cookies
Three, and only when they apply to you. faxly_geo remembers the country of your connection for 30 days, and faxly_currency the currency the English site shows its prices in — your country’s where we have a price, otherwise US dollars; add ?currency=USD to any address to choose another. faxly_lang remembers, for a year, the language you chose when we offered you the site in your language or when you picked one in the footer, so we never ask again. Each stores only that value; deleting it just means we look, or ask, once more.
04Analytics
We load Google’s advertising tag (gtag.js) on every page to measure whether one of our ads led to a fax. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it runs with Google’s consent mode set to denied: it sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device and sends Google only cookieless conversion signals. Elsewhere it may set Google’s advertising cookies (_gcl_au, _gac_*) for up to 90 days, to attribute a fax to the ad you clicked. Outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we also load Meta’s pixel (fbevents.js), to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram and to show them to people likely to need Faxly. It sets Meta’s cookie _fbp, and _fbc when you arrive from one of our ads, each for up to 90 days, and tells Meta which pages of our site you open and, when you buy a pass, its price and currency — never the pages of your account, a fax’s contents, the number it goes to or your email address. Meta uses this under its own privacy policy; in the US states for which Meta offers its Limited Data Use mode, only as our service provider. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and in any browser that sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the pixel is not loaded at all. We run no other analytics or tracking scripts, and we do not sell data.
05Managing cookies
Every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking essential cookies will sign you out. Questions: help@faxly.com.
